Paper stock for books to print on offset press. Star Print Brokers coated and uncoated stock are acid-free archival paper.
Asia and Europe provide weights in grams per square meter. USA basis paper weight on a ream, which is 500 sheets.
You don’t need to know the paper weight for your book. If you are unsure, we will suggest the stock, weight, and finish.
COATED PAPER AT SPB
This paper stock has a clay coating on the surface and is used for the finest book printing including coffee table books, art books, and photography books. It is also for children’s picture books because it stays somewhat cleaner with constant use than uncoated stock and reflects superior color.
- Matte paper comes in a variety of weights.
- Gloss paper is also available in a selection of weights, but is a bit thinner than matte of the same weight.
UNCOATED PAPER AT SPB
Paperback novels and inexpensive books that are not meant to last for years. For uncoated paper stock, woodfree is a good choice. Our stock is named “woodfree.”

Also, Star Print Brokers does not use all conversions on our charts, but instead provides an approximate weight in gsm, specifically for stock that we use. You can glean an approximation or points, pounds, or grams per square meter if you don’t find the exact correlation.
We quite often print coffee table books on 150 gsm coated paper stock for books. The conversions equivalent is 101 lb text. In the USA, you will almost always find 100 versus 101 lb. There is a difference between 100 lb text and 100 lb cover.
