Novels, trade books, and book design

Novels, trade books, and book design.
When novels or trade books are set using Adobe InDesign, there is usually something special about the book that makes it more advantageous to use InDesign instead of Microsoft Word.
- Perhaps it is as simple as the author or designer being more comfortable using one software over the other.
- The book may need to be set in a non-standard size.
- There may be process color images that need to be formatted for a higher quality printing than what is supplied by print on-demand service providers.
There are some excellent and modestly priced Word templates that can be used for the design of a novel. spend $20 to $50 and design your book yourself.
What you need to know …
If opting to use Adobe InDesign, the book can be formatted in one document instead of creating a book and adding multiple chapters. The exception may be if there are a lot of photographs or graphic images.
Master pages, paragraphs, character styles, and perhaps object styles are created. InDesign is just a more powerful software for book design. But, for a novel that is all text or mostly text, Word can get the job done.
