Quite possibly you don’t have a board book or a children’s book. Maybe the page count is higher. I’ve designed many large format, high page count coffee table books, photography books, art books, and much more. Some of the books that I have been designing in recent years are in a carousel at the top of this page, and there are many more books as my work spans decades.

NancyStarkman.com is a book service to make professional book design more affordable for self-publishers. To do this, I am streamlining the process. Having much experience, I know where the stumbling blocks are in the book design process. These problems can waste so much time and money. Save money and still have a beautifully designed book. I am a book designer, not just a graphic artist. There is a difference!
I see many authors of children’s picture books for children who needed high-quality book design in order to sell more books. However, usually the design fees combined with other costs are out of reach for many. That is why I set up NancyStarkman.com.
I do the design.
Nothing is done by a “desktop” publisher that your intuition tells you might be a mistake. I fix those kinds of books! Mistakes cost $100 an hour of my time, with a minimum of $50. Realize that quite often, a basic fee at a service provider or a printer for simply opening up a file to make a change, can easily cost a minimum fee of $350. Having said that, this is an experiment at NancyStarkman.com. I hope to stay with the “Express” pricing for our book services, but it is really important that authors stick to the parameters that I set up.
My husband, Edward Starkman, and began Star Print Brokers, Inc. in 1999. Our focus has always been on high-quality book printing. It is what we base our reputation is on … for many years.
However, I really enjoy book design, so must so that I wrote the book Book Design: Simple & Professional. It is available on Amazon. I can design your book too, as part of my book services. But then, there is also the Standard book design.

Children’s book and board book services.
I want to give authors of children’s picture books and board books the lowest design fees.
- An initial 30-minute consultation is complimentary.
- We will work with files on DropBox. Join for free.
- Provide all materials at once, not individually, including manuscript, illustrations, ISBN and barcode. Need an ISBN or bar code? Go to ISBN.org.
- The manuscript must be proofread & editing done in advance.
- Page count or paper thickness vary. Email the spine width to us from your service provider. If designing a hardcover book, we need cover wrap specifications too.
- Design PDFs: Before completing the book, the author receives one cover PDF and one interior book PDF with title page, copyright page, and 2 or 3 book pages for approval.
- AAs (Author’s Alternations, corrections or changes) are $100 an hour, minimum of 30 minutes per session.
- We are not responsible for any errors by author or designer after author approval.
- It usually takes just a few days to complete, depending on a quick author approval.
- Printers’ PDFs: We provide print-ready PDFs for book and cover. We do not provide the Adobe InDesign files.
- Dust jacket and endpapers are an additional design cost.
