Board books, meaning baby board books

Board books meaning baby board books.
Board books meaning baby board books, are small and limited in page count for babies and toddlers. They usually run 8 to 24 pages and have round, outside corners. Our company is one of the few that print these books on commercial, offset printing presses.
Babies and children put books in their mouths, so we print with soy-based inks on stock that have a clay coating. The baby books also have a lamination on each page and cover, so the book pages can wipe clean.
What you need to know … the text file
If you are designing baby books, the text file is usually set-up in one document.
Check with us before you do the layout for the baby board books. There are two ways to set it up. The layout will depend on our negotiations with the printer we select for your particular books.
All printers are not the same. We only work with a small cadre of printers. There are very few printers how do them, and more importantly, do a good job.
The books will print on thicker boards rather than paper. Unlike other types of books where the first page is a right-hand page, typically, a board book’s first page is a left-hand page. This page is printing on the inside front cover. You will have an even number of pages in the text document. The last page of the text file s a right-hand page. The page will be printing on the inside back cover. Go to File > Document Setup … and leave the Facing Pages box without a check.
The cover file
Another file is set-up that is the width of the back cover, the spine, plus the front cover. The designer will need to know the spine width of the book which depends on the number of pages and the printer. Not all books manufacture on the same equipment or use the same board thickness.
